The Documented Life Project: Prompt 9 "Collage Something You Recycled"

I am stepping out of my comfort zone with this prompt....who am I kidding I have been out of my comfort zone for this whole project. Playing with bright colored inks and paints, art pages and journaling, all things I have struggled with in the past. I am a vintage, aged person that usually plays with fall colors and not the brights either but the darks. But I am really enjoying this and am finding I am actually happy with some of my work.
For this page I received an ad in the mail for Brecks which is a garden wholesale center. I usually buy some of their bulbs each year. In this ad was a bunch of fliers with lots of brightly colored flowers. So I went to work cutting them out and then used my mod podge to apply them to my page. I also used some sheet music that I found at a estate sale. Below is how it looks before adding stenciling, paint and doodling. The doodling border was inspired by a book I recently bought in Michaels called "Creative Doodling & Beyond" by Stephanie Corfee.

I spent the day today with a sweet little boy who stayed home from school because he had the flu. His mommy had to work and I could rearrange my schedule so I could stay with him. Around noon he started to feel a little better and he wanted to do an art project with me. So I cut out all my flowers while he drew, colored and cut out a snowman. While we were busy working away he told me he was going to grow up and get a good job and have Great Uncle Fred build a mansion for him. So sweet. I am glad that he was feeling better when his mommy came to pick him up.

Here's his cute.

The Documented Life Project: Promt 3 "Add an Envelope From Your Mailbox" and Bunny and Kitty Tracks.

Add an envelope from your mailbox they say.....ok but none of the ones I had received seemed appealing,,,until today. This envelope came from Quill and they were advertising a sale on printer ink. When I seen the word "Inkcredible" on the outside of the envelope and then on the inside of the advertisement, I knew I had the envelope I needed. It was all the inspiration I needed to document the fact that January is certainly not my favorite month of the year, but, with ART we will survive.

I really need to find a book or an online course to help improve my lettering skills or maybe I should say lack of skills. The rubber stamp letters always turn out great, then I add my own letters and I feel it desperately screams for help. I will have to see what I can do about that. I still have 5 more weeks to catch up on, I am hoping to get another one done tomorrow.

Now on another note.....this is what I seen as I was walking into the Church for work this morning.
It just made my day, little things like this will do that for me. I envision the bunny and kitty being best of friends. Maybe they even were in the church before I got there and had their very own worship service. I would love to hang out till the wee hours of the morning and watch these two as they walk along and discuss how they could improve the world if the humans would just take life lessons from them. I imagine they would go about their day without worries, without jealously, anger, bitterness, or any of the negative feelings we humans have. I imagine they give thanks to God for everything and everyone. I imagine they know what true grace and love is and they know how to share it. Well I did not get a glimpse of them, but maybe someday I will and may even get to hear them as they discuss what they are going to do for their day. If not here on earth then in Heaven where all God's creatures will live in harmony. Until then, have a great evening.

The Documented Life Project: Prompt 2 "Selfie"

A "Selfie" is not my So I did a little twist on it. I added some journaling concerning  things about me and then found this nice looking lady in a magazine and the words "Picture this". I guess it turned out OK, it is also the first time I went to a magazine for ephemera for my art. I think I will try this again sometime and maybe with practice I will decide I like it.

Tonight was my night for the Wonder kids...I just love those girls. We are also working on an art journal, tonight they finished their "Family" page. They all did a wonderful job.

Enjoy your night!

My Documented Life Project: Prompt 1 "My Front Door"

I never dreamed I would enjoy this group so much...but with each page I am finding I am learning more and becoming very happy with the outcomes. The Documented Life Project is an online group where we are given a prompt each week that we incorporate into our journal. I did not get started right away so I did not have anything to journal for my first week, I took both pages and created this spread for prompt one "Your Front Door." When I read this prompt I knew right away I was going to include my doggie door that is beside my front door. Their door is as important as our human door, if not more so, as we do not use the front door but the dogs sure do.
I began my page by applying gesso and then coated with two coats of acrylic paint with a credit card. Then I used my water color crayons to apply more color, I also used some stencils with acrylic paint for a little more interest. I then went to work on my surely must be illegal to have this much fun with an art project...hours later I surfaced with a finished project. Here are a few close up pictures..enjoy!
Each year my son and his wife give me an Australian Shepherd calendar for my birthday and last year it had a quote for each month. I am sure you will be seeing more of these this year in my journal.
How true this is...if you know anything about these Australian Shepherds you probably know they have a lot of hair. During shedding season you probably do not want to be a guest in my house.
The Human front door...complete with a fire hydrant.
The current residents are reside peacefully within...well almost. As with all families there is a little disfunction. :)
Joe believes we have too many animals in this house...3 dogs, 1 cat and a guinea pig. In my opinion, if I was home all day and did not ever want to go anywhere, I would feel the more the merrier. I would love to be able to take care of all dogs who do not have homes and who should be taken from their current homes due to abuse, but, that is not realistic for me. So I will love the ones I have and be thankful to God there are people who are able to help the less fortunate critters in this cruel world. Wow I did not mean to go in that direction with this post.
So there it is my "Door"....on to thinking about the next prompt.
take care

Cover page for My Documented Life Project

Here is my finished cover page for my DLP journal. My title is on a piece of card stock that has some water colored flowers on it. I glued that down then framed it with some washi tape. I did some doodling with my Faber-Castell Pitt pens and my white Pitt artist pen. I added a favorite quote and a couple favorite Bible verses.

I went with my daughter n her kids to pick out a couple kittens from a local farm. The kittens are the kids Valentine present, pretty sweet I would say. I believe their names are going to be One Eyed Jack and Willow. It's funny the kittens match  the kids personality pretty well.

Hope you all enjoyed your Valentine'sDay!!

The Documented Life Project

I joined an online group called The Documented Life Project (DLP) where we have a weekly planner to keep track of our crazy schedules while incorporating artful journaling. The ones I have seen from some of the other ladies are simply fantastic. This is my first time trying something like this and I am so excited to get going. I finally made a decision on what I was going to use for my planner. The project actually calls for a moleskin planner and yes they are supper nice but just not what I had in mind. So when I had taken Dad to a dr's apt before we headed home I stopped in to Barnes and Nobles to see what they had for journals. I picked out a plain one after checking out all the yummy ones they had, wow some of them were beautiful. I seen what one of the ladies did on DLP and asked her if she minded if I used the same idea...and she was all for it. So my plan is to add my own weekly calendar page to each of my pages and go from there. Tonight I have for you my introduction page, and yes I am 6 weeks behind I'm not sure if I plan on catching up or just starting with the current week.
Here is my background I created using acrylic paints and stencils. First I coated the page with gesso then wiped green, pink, and purple paints on with a baby wipe, then I started building the stencils.
So that is as far as I have for you right now....I plan on working more on this tonight.
Along with working on my DLP, I created my first "Happy Mail" envelope for a special lady on "Journal 52". Here is my pictorial progress:
so I prepped my envelope with gesso
then I added three colors of acrylic paint with a plastic card.

My next step was to layer on the stencils.
Then I got caught up in the process and forgot to take more pictures. So this is the finished fill it with some goodies I have selected and off to the post office tomorrow.

Gelli Art Printing

It has arrived.....well a couple weeks ago it did. I have thoroughly enjoyed it so far. I am excited to learn more about this cool process and have been studying all the wonderful videos on you tube. Actually I think I have become addicted to the videos. I have discovered how well these prints adapt to Art Journal pages so I joined a group called "Journal 52" which is a free online Art Journal group in which you are given a prompt for every week in the year to use in your journal. I am so excited I have been having a great time creating my art pages and also have been enjoying seeing how every one has been creating their pages from the same prompt. The first week was "Somewhere, A Simple Place" here is my take. A simple place for me is in my garden, a place where I can day dream, talk and listen to God, text my sister, listen to nature, and work at my leisure pulling weeks and tending the plants.
I have created my own journal that will incorporate my "Faith Journal" and my "Art Journal" in one. The "Faith Journal" will include projects I am working on with my Wonder Kids (a group of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade kids that meets at our church on Tuesday evenings for a time of lesson, craft and fellowship) along with projects that are just for me. Here is the front cover of my journal.
I hope you are finding time in your busy schedule to embrace your creative juices in what ever venue you choose. I am looking forward to a day with a group of ladies from our church on saturday for a Winter Craft Day, I am not sure what I will be taking to work on yet, but I am guessing it will have to do with the gelli plate and art journaling.
Enjoy your evening.
