Snowman Contest at Church

Our Church is having a "Snowman" contest for the month of January. So today two of my grandkids came over to create their snowman. I gave them the base and they were very busy designing their own work of art. While they were working on theirs I created this guy. Not a keeper thats for sure....he looks like a cross between William Penn and a bird.

I was wondering what I was going to do when I spied this metal contianer sitting in a corner in my living room and I knew then that was my base. So I had bought some buffalo snow that was on clearance at Michaels for under $1.00 a bag and I made three snowballs. To hold them together I wrapped them with crochet cotton. I left tails on the biggest snowball when I made it and I took these tails and secured them down into the metal container. Then I put my second snowball on top of that one and wrap it with more crochet cotton to hold the two together. I did the same steps for the final snowball.
Well this girl needed a skirt so I took a piece of my handmade paper I had bought at Hollo's and cut it in half, ran a running stitch with thread and gathered it into a skirt. I had wrapped some drywall tape around where the snowballs meet for extra strength and this created a great base to stitich my skirt on. I then created some arms for my girl and attached them by sewing at the shoulders and then sewing the hands together.
I gathered some doilies I had in my stash to use for the top of her dress. I attached one on each shoulder and added a scrap of lace across the back. I had made some crochet borders previously and attached them down the front of her bodice. I had a little beaded piece someone had given to me and I used that as her brooch. I put some of my antique buttons in a little bag and placed that in her hands then I added a metal snowman. A friend gave me the tag with the glass bottle that has some ingredients to make a snowman and I put that in place in her hands.
For her hat I gathered a round lace doiley and glued that on top of her head. I took a paper doiley folder it in half, and then took three more folded them in half and pleated them and attached them on top of the first doiley. This I placed on the front of her hat with a crochet flower I had made a while ago.
On the back of her hat I added some more crocheted flowers. For her eyes I glued on some buttons and glued on some fibers for eyebrows. I created a carrot for her nose out of paper and use some beads I had for a mouth. I also found in my stash a quilled snowflake I attached to the bottom edge of the front of her skirt.

Here she is already for the contest. Now to come up with a name for her. I am thinking something with a southern belle feel to it. Any ideas?

Printer Tray Message Center

It was an absolutely beautiful day here for January 6th. We had temps way up in the 40's, the sun was shining and the air was still. Perfect!! After work I decided that the best way for me to enjoy the rest of my day was to take a shopping trip. I didn't get out for the earlier after Christmas sales so I thought I would see if there was anything left out there. I was pleasantly surprise to find several items....I wanted to decorate all of my fences next year in doing so I would need 8 more strings of garland. Ahh I found them for $2.00 a piece ...that was a great deal. Then for my next store I found a beautiful poinsettia for at work next year. My final store had some things on sale that I decided would make a great birthday gift for my sister, and also a tin chalk board for my kitchen wall. So all in all it was a very productive shopping trip. So there went my plans to get some crafting time in today. I will get up early in the morning to get my layout done for "Faithbooking" I have a plan for that and so it should go well. I will post it tomorrow night (hopefully) for you.

I did get the tray to make this Printer Tray project. I am very excited to get started with this. Maybe you would like to make one to and send me a picture to include with mine when I post it.

Good day

I spent about 4 hours in my studio today, it felt so good. I did a layout in an altered book that is way over due to a group member, and I did a niche in an altered book again its way over due. It felt good to get these two projects done. Tomorrow I am going to get a layout done for the "Faith booking" group that meets at our Church. Last month we did a family page and this month I am going to do a matching page for the 2 page layout. I will post for you tomorrow night both of those pages.  I hope your day was as productive as mine.

2012

That's IT!!!!
I need to take charge of my life....I think I have just been floating by. I miss my artsy fartsy time and I am determined to gain it back. So now I have said it and u have heard it.....lets begin.
I have discovered "Pinterest" and I believe it has become my inspiration. I see all the wonderful projects that r being done and I am feeling inspired to take them and make them my own. Most of my creativity has been used doing bulletin boards, and although they r fun, they r only using the very basic creative juices that I have. So its time to become reacquainted with my studio and see just what can become of all those built up dreams and possiblities and let them soar into something materialistic. My goal is to have something new each week for u to start with and then lets see if we can get a couple projects a week going.
Not only have I missed my time in my studio but I have missed sharing with you and you with me. I pray u r still there.....let us begin on another journey together....an altered journey. See u soon.
