Lenten Devotion - March 16th, 2010

Read: Mark 8: 1-10

Jesus used parables as an illustration of a situation to tell His disciples. The story of feeding the hungry is one. A version of this also appears in Matthew, Luke and John.
In Mark 8: 1-10 four thousand have been with Jesus for three days and were hungry. Jesus told the disciples the people had to be fed before they went home. Seven loaves of bread and a few fish were found. Jesus blessed the food and broke it all into pieces. The disciples distributed the food among the crowd. Their hunger was satisfied and there was food left. They all went on their way home. Jesus performed a miracle.
We have a situation of thousands being hungry after a devastating earth quake in Haiti. People are starving and dying because of the lack of food and water getting to them. The supplies are getting into the country from around the world. In my opinion the government is failing to get the food and water to the people where it is needed.
We have to have faith and believe God will provide our needs and take care of us. I can't imagine the horror the poople in Haiti are going through. I have never been hungry to the point of starvation. I thank God for taking care of me.

Prayer: Dear God, you are a God of love and caring. Please care for Your people, give them peace and comfort. Amen.
